4. Split
If you’re dealt a pair, players have the option to place another wager and the dealer will split the two cards so each card becomes the first card on two new hands. Say you’re dealt a pair of aces. Your hand value is at 2, because 22 is an automatic loss. You could hit and hope to raise that 2 to a number that’s more likely to win, or you can split those cards and try for two Blackjacks.
5. Surrender
If you don’t like your initial hand, you do have the option of throwing it away in exchange for half of your original bet.
